On 10th–11th February 2026, RISE successfully conducted a two-day training for humanitarian actors on the application of a Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) protection in Baidoa, South West State of Somalia.
The training brought together humanitarian partners and frontline responders working with displacement-affected communities to strengthen their understanding and practical application of HRBA principles in protection programming. Participants explored key human rights standards, accountability mechanisms, participation and inclusion strategies, and approaches to ensuring that IDPs are treated as rights-holders rather than beneficiaries.
Through interactive sessions, group discussions, and case studies, the training emphasized:
- Integrating human rights principles into project design and implementation
- Promoting meaningful participation of IDPs in decision-making processes
- Strengthening accountability to affected populations
- Addressing discrimination and enhancing protection for the most vulnerable groups
The initiative aimed to enhance the capacity of humanitarian actors to deliver principled, inclusive, and rights-centered interventions that uphold the dignity, safety, and fundamental freedoms of displaced communities.
RISE remains committed to advancing protection standards and supporting coordinated efforts to improve the well-being and resilience of IDPs across South West State.
