Resilience Integration and Sustainable Empowerment (RISE) participated in a joint humanitarian assessment conducted on 03 September 2026 in Hawa Abdi, Lafoole and 3 Buurood, Afgooye District, Lower Shabelle Region. The assessment aimed to understand the humanitarian conditions and priority needs of newly displaced families and vulnerable communities.

The assessment covered 24 displacement sites, where 455 households were identified and verified, representing approximately 700 newly displaced people. Many families reported having been displaced from Baidoa, Baraawe, Basra, and other areas affected by conflict and insecurity. Conflict, insecurity, loss of livelihoods, and household assets were identified among the key drivers of displacement.

The assessment highlighted significant humanitarian needs across multiple sectors, including food security, WASH, shelter and non-food items (NFIs), health, nutrition, protection, education, and livelihoods.

Particular attention is required for vulnerable groups, including children, women and girls, female-headed households, pregnant and lactating women, older persons, persons with disabilities, and households without stable sources of income.

The findings underscore the urgent need for a coordinated, timely, and multi-sectoral humanitarian response to address immediate needs while strengthening pathways toward recovery, self-reliance, and resilience.

RISE remains committed to working alongside humanitarian partners, local authorities, communities, and other stakeholders to support inclusive, needs-based, and accountable humanitarian action for displaced and vulnerable communities across Somalia.
